With average temperatures in the mid-70’s to mid-80’s throughout the summer, the Iron Range has a multitude of activities to enjoy.

Bike / Hike
The Iron Range is famous for the Mesabi Trail which stretches from Grand Rapids to Ely – that’s 132 miles of paved biking and hiking access! There are also many other hiking trails in the area.

Ski, snowboard or snowshoe at Giants Ridge
Giants Ridge offers 35 downhill runs, as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails.
Snowmobile on the Iron Range State Trail
This 110-mile trail connects communities throughout the Iron Range, offering scenic views of the area’s forests and lakes.
The Carey Lake in Hibbing
Carey Lake trail is groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in Hibbing (some are lighted).
Snowshoe at the Vermilion Trail Camp
This winter recreation area near Ely offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails, as well as a warming hut and bonfire pit.
Ice Fishing
With hundreds of lakes within a short distance, there are more than enough opportunities to get out and enjoy some ice fishing.
Take a snowmobile tour of the Soudan Underground Mine State Park
In the winter the park offers guided snowmobile tours of the historic underground mine.
